Government
Relations Summit, Washington
, DC
A critically important annual event for members of
NJBankers is the American Bankers Association’s Government
Relations Summit held in Washington, DC. The program features participation
by congressional leadership and key committee members, senior regulatory
staff and representatives from the administration. In addition,
NJBankers schedules meetings with members of the New
Jerseycongressional delegation. Our association
can have an important impact on national policies given the prominent
roles played by Senator Menendez and Representatives Garrett, Adler and
Lance in financial services issues.
The Government Relations Summit truly
is your opportunity to "talk to power." Your involvement will help
legislators understand who bankers really are, and what banks do for
their constituents. Our message: Let bankers be bankers—an engine
of economic growth and job creation in our communities.
At the Summit, we'll explore developments related to key issues that
will impact our industry, including the implementation of Dodd-Frank and
desired changes to the regulatory environment. And of course, we will
meet with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to discuss our concerns about the
state of the industry, our communities and our nation.
This degree of legislative engagement also helps shape the regulatory
process—a fact that will be reflected in the Summit agenda. In
2012, the bank regulatory agency leadership will be completely
new—giving us an exceptional opportunity to reach out to
regulators.
Last year, nearly 1,000 bankers connected by a common cause joined ABA
and the State Associations in Washington for this important event. Let
us again show the strength and conviction of our united industry in
2012—mark your calendar today and plan to join us March
19-21.
