NJBankers’ committees provide an invaluable opportunity for personal and professional growth. They provide a platform to expand your network, collaborate with like-minded professionals, and gain insights from your peers. Additionally, committee involvement fosters leadership skills and broadens your understanding of emerging trends.

Most committee meetings are held virtually several times per year. Committees are open to all Members of NJBankers unless otherwise noted. If you are interested in joining one of our committees, please email Diane Starr at [email protected].


BANKING ON WOMEN PLANNING COMMITTEE
Plans the annual Banking on Women Conference held in the spring.

 

BANK SECRECY ACT COMMITTEE
The committee focuses on a broad range of BSA/AML related areas including regulatory, technology and best practices.

 

BANK TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
The Bank Technology & Cyber Committee concentrates on network technology and infrastructure, cloud processing, cyber defense strategies, disaster recovery, and threats and vulnerabilities. Includes discussions on open banking and AI strategies.

CFO COMMITTEE
Provide a formal forum for member bank CFOs to communicate with their peers; develop and offer education programs; create networking opportunities; provide feedback on regulatory and FASB pronouncements; provide white papers on newly enacted regulations and FASB rules; and comment on proposed legislation.

COMMERCIAL LENDING COMMITTEE
Review proposed laws and regulations pertaining to commercial credit (loans secured by real estate as well as those that are unsecured or secured by inventory, etc.), keep the membership informed on commercial lending issues and make policy and position recommendations to the Board of Directors on these issues.

COMPLIANCE AND CRA COMMITTEE 
Review compliance issues including proposed laws and regulations that impose compliance burdens, keep the membership informed on compliance issues, make policy and position recommendations to the Director of Government Affairs on these issues, develop the program for the annual Compliance University, and develop other programming as necessary.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION COUNCIL
The DEI Council meets to develop and plan NJBankers DEI events and programs including three virtual events and the annual in-person DEI Conference. The DEI Council also shares best practices to help cultivate a more inclusive banking community. To join the DEI Council, members must participate in an onboarding call. EMERGING LEADERS NETWORK
The Emerging Leaders Network meets to plan the three ELN events held each year: one educational, one social, and one philanthropic. The Emerging Leaders Network is a sub-division of NJBankers for the future generation of leadership. To join the ELN Committee, members must participate in an onboarding call.

ENTERPRISE RISK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
Review and discuss Enterprise Risk Management by defining risk functions (Credit, Interest Rate, Market, Operational & Transactional, Compliance & Legal, Technology, Fiduciary & Reputation) and the management of responsibilities as they relate to risk under the various models available in the industry – COSO, FDICIA, CAMELs, etc. Committee will discuss appropriate oversight roles and responsibilities by the Board, Committees and Senior Management and related ERM topics.

 

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS COMMITTEE
Review and evaluate association positions on state and federal legislation and regulatory proposals.

HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE
Keep membership up-to-date on current and new developments in personnel management, including wage and salary administration, fringe benefits, personnel practices, employment and termination techniques, internal management-labor relations and laws and regulations affecting these areas; make policy and position recommendations to the Board of Directors. Plans the program for the annual Human Resources Conference.

 

INTERNAL AUDIT COMMITTEE
Keep the membership informed in all areas of internal auditing, current regulatory trends and best practices. Industry experts provide timely presentations, CPE credit is often available. Members share ideas and audit experiences.


PHILANTHROPIC COMMITTEE
A community of bankers and Associate Members who manage or are involved in the creation and management of philanthropic efforts and grants for their specific institution. The committee discusses best practices, shares insights on individual philanthropic efforts, and discusses joint opportunities to create programs that highlight the work the NJ banking industry is doing for their respective communities.

PUBLIC RELATIONS & MARKETING COMMITTEE
The committee discusses current topics and issues of interest to anyone involved in Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising and/or Communications. Meetings focus on campaign best practices, challenges, and practical implementation of marketing and PR strategies. Additionally, the committee assists in the planning of the annual Marketing Conference.

RESIDENTIAL LENDING/LOAN SERVICING COMMITTEE
Keep the membership informed on proposed laws and regulations and changing market forces affecting the origination and secondary market for residential mortgage lending as well as those affecting the servicing of loans.


RETAIL BANKING COMMITTEE
The Retail Banking Committee is responsible for overseeing all aspects of retail banking administration. Key focus areas include branch staffing, customer service, automation, new product and service development, and the regulatory and legislative impacts on retail banking. The committee also assists in developing seminars for retail bankers and loan officers. 

SECURITY COMMITTEE
Advise the membership and the Board of Directors on issues related to crimes against financial institutions and their prevention and make policy recommendations to the Board of Directors on security-related issues.
